Picadeli praised by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in France
The Prix d’Excellence is awarded annually to a Swedish company that has excelled in the French market. Previous prize winners include Ericsson, SAS, Volvo, Scania and Tetra Pak.Each year a jury selects a winner based on a number of criteria such as results, quality and technological innovation. Picadeli was praised as the best performing company and the jury’s motivation states, among others:
“Picadeli is praised for its rapid growth in a very short time. More than 430 salad bars have been installed, equivalent to a new salad bar every other day on average. A strong performance in a highly competitive market characterised by a strong culinary culture.”
Picadeli has gained consumer confidence in every country it has exported the concept to. At present, the salad bars are available at about 2,100 locations in Europe and Picadeli sells an average of 1.2 salads per second round the clock. There are 430 salad bars in the French market where Picadeli collaborates with some of the largest French chains, including Franprix, Monoprix, Carrefour and Euro Garages.
–The prize is an acknowledgement of our success in the French market. We have managed to develop a concept that French consumers quickly have taken to their hearts. We have also digitalised the entire supply chain so that we can scale up the business to meet the needs of giants such as Carrefour, says David Bicheron, CEO of Picadeli in France.
Technology – a key to sustainability
The jury also recognises Picadeli’s use of technology as a prerequisite for sustainable growth. Technical solutions developed internally at Picadeli counteract food waste and ensure that the company lives up to France’s high food safety requirements.
Picadeli’s high-tech salad bar has, among others, sensors that alert to temperature deviations and monitor the freshness of the products. Also, the bar reduces food waste even more as it learns the taste preferences of consumers in all stores in seven European markets. Based on this, Picadeli can then customize the range and planogram.
– Sustainability is a natural part of our entire value chain and in the development of Picadeli. Everything we stand for and everything we offer our customers depends on a healthy planet. We give people the opportunity to eat tastier and healthier food with fruit and vegetables as the base, a diet that gives lower climate impact and takes up less land and water, said David von Laskowski, president and CEO of Greenfood Group and Picadeli.
There is a great interest in and commitment to plant-based diets, especially among young people in France. And there, Picadeli is well positioned. The company’s range consists of 90 percent vegetarian products and 70 percent vegan. Picadeli has also launched several new plant-based products to meet the demand for alternative protein sources.
Picadeli is part of the Greenfood Group, one of the largest food retail groups in the Nordic region, focusing on healthy, tasty and easily accessible convenience food.
