MINIMAL IMPACT
Greenfood's environmental work
Our goal is to make as small a climate footprint as possible - and within the limits of what the planet can withstand. Greenfood's environmental work is long-term and thorough. We work actively to minimize our own resource use and the size of our climate footprint. It is about securing smarter solutions, using more sustainable materials, having better transport solutions and, together with our producers and suppliers, reducing the environmental impact of their operations.
Smarter energy use
We are working hard to reduce our energy consumption and switch to renewable electricity. Part of that change is to produce our own green electricity. Today we run a photovoltaic park and we are investing in two more. At the same time, we are modernizing our refrigeration systems and investing in heat recovery.
More sustainable packaging
Plastic packaging can extend the shelf life of a product and thereby minimize food waste; however, such packaging material has an environmental impact. We are trying to find the model that has the smallest impact. Within Greenfood, several initiatives are underway to reduce the amount of plastic in our packaging, as well as to use plastic that is renewable or recycled. Or simply replace the plastic with other materials with a lower environmental impact where possible.
Reduced, greener transportation
To reduce the climate impact of our transportation, we are working to optimize loads in a better way and increase coordination between companies. We are also replacing more and more of Greenfood's own vehicles with more environmentally friendly alternatives and investing in technology for more digital meetings and fewer journeys to physical meetings.
Increased climate responsibility with SBTi
Tackling the climate crisis requires tough measures and ambitious climate goals from all actors, at all levels, and in all business sectors. We have taken a big step in our sustainability work by joining the international system, Science Based Targets initiative *.
As part of setting scientifically established goals, we are now reviewing the company's total emissions throughout our entire value chain. Based on that analysis, further ambitious climate targets will be set, which include direct emissions, indirect emissions from purchased energy, and emissions in the rest of the value chain.
* SBTi is a global standard that helps companies set climate goals in line with the science required to reach the Paris Agreement, thus avoiding global warming exceeding 1.5 degrees.
